Jeweled Graphics on a web page can be quite stunning. I picked up the idea for this graphic set from jaguarwoman.com. I highly recommend you visit her site. She has some wonderful background sets. To complete this set you will need Blade Pro, several presets (download them at the end of this page) and the font "Fleurons" which you can download from the Dingbat Font Page.

To make this background set:

Header Graphic

  1. Create a new graphic large enough to hold your entire header.
  2. Flood fill with a solid color or a fine grain background (I used one of my fine grain backgrounds which I then applied the Soften filter to).
  3. Add a new layer.
  4. Make your selection for your button somewhat smaller than you want the end header to be.
  5. Expand your selection by 5-6 (this will round the edges somewhat).
  6. Set the background color to a very dark version of your background pattern or color.
  7. Apply the Cutout filter Opacity 100%, Blur 24, Offset 0,0, shadow color "Background Color".
  8. Adjust the opacity slider until the outline looks good to you.
  9. Add another new layer.
  10. Experiment with the Fleuron font "L" to get it the right side to fit over the end of your header graphic (mine was 120).
  11. Place the font with foreground color white and floating checked.
  12. Apply the "silver" Blade Pro Preset.
  13. Move until it is perfectly aligned with the top and bottom of the graphic (hint, hold down the Shift key and use the arrow keys to move your selection one pixel at a time in each direction).
  14. Copy your selection (CTRL C).
  15. Paste "As a new selection), Choose Image|Mirror to flip the selection and move this to the other end of the graphic and align.
  16. Add another new layer.
  17. Make a circular selection (with antialias checked) to make the jewel.
  18. Flood fill with white and apply the "jewel" Blade Pro Preset. This jewel is preset to create a purple jewel. To change the jewel color, change the two lights to different colors.
  19. Copy this jewel and paste As a New Selection, move to the other side of the graphic.
  20. Add another new layer.
  21. Add your text, foreground white. Apply the Blade Pro preset "jewel_text". This preset it pretty much set for purple. If you want a different color, you might want to experiment with the "jewel" preset.
  22. Save your graphic as a psp file. You might want to save your font and preset information in the View|Image Information file that saves with the graphic.

Button Graphic

This button graphic is created exactly the same as the header graphic, just smaller.

Horizontal Bar

To create this Horizontal Bar:

  1. Open the "bar.gif" from the zip file at the bottom of this page.
  2. Up the colors to 16 million.
  3. Make a mask from the graphic (Masks|New|From Image (This Window, Source Luminance, Invert Mask Data checked).
  4. Save to Alpha Channel (Masks|Save to Alpha Channel).
  5. Delete mask and don't merge with layer.
  6. Flood fill with your background color or pattern.
  7. Add a new layer.
  8. Load your selection (Selections|Load from Alpha Channel).
  9. Flood fill selection with white.
  10. Apply the "Silver" preset.
  11. Add another new layer.
  12. Create a jewel as outlined above and make a copy. Position jewels over the circular portion of the graphic.
  13. Save as a jpg.
